It begins during the study of educational courses (“Historical local history, museology”, “Source and archival studies”, “History of Ukraine” and others), in the process of which students receive some information about the role of museums in preserving the ethnocultural heritage of the Ukrainian people. The Department of Ethnology and Archaeology, where ethnographic courses are taught, coordinates the work and informs students in advance about the upcoming practice. A month before the start of museum practice, the head methodologist holds an orientation meeting, where he familiarizes students with the content and structure of the future work, the plan for the practice of students of the faculty. At the introductory lesson, students are informed about the need to comply with the work regime, the rules for keeping current records and other internal rules of the museum institution on the basis of practice.

Before starting museum practice, the student should know:

The Law of Ukraine “On Museums and Museum Work” dated June 29, 1995 No. 249/95-VR, which regulates public relations in the field of museum work, establishes the legal, economic, and social principles of scientific acquisition, study, preservation, and use of monuments of nature, material and spiritual culture, and the activities of museum institutions in Ukraine.

On the first day of practice, the museum director or his deputy conducts a conversation with students about the work of the museum. Students get acquainted with the work of the departments of the practice base and are distributed to workplaces.

The internship program also provides for a familiarization tour in order for students to gain a more complete idea of the practice base, its structure, the interaction of individual units, the current management system and functioning. In the following days of the internship, they are introduced to exhibition work – the construction of museum expositions and exhibitions.

III. Final stage. Includes the preparation of reporting documentation, its defense and a final assessment of the results of the internship.

The base of the museum internship is the Ivano-Frankivsk Museum of Local Lore, with which the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations has concluded an agreement on scientific cooperation, including regarding the students’ educational internship.

For the successful implementation of all types of activities, the Ivano-Frankivsk Museum of Local Lore closely cooperates with other museum institutions and research units (Museum of Folk Architecture and Life (Lviv), Institute of Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Lviv), Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnology named after M. Rylsky of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv), etc.).
