In the specialty 032 “History and Archaeology”. The educational and professional program “Ethnology” (branch of knowledge – 03 “Humanities”) is training specialists in the amount of 15 people of full-time study in accordance with the license.

In 2013, the training of ethnology specialists at the educational and qualification level of Master began. Since its establishment in 2006, the specialized department has been headed by Professor, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine Mykola Vasilyevich Kugutyak.

The need to train specialists in the educational and professional program “Ethnology” of the specialty 032 “History and Archaeology” at the Precarpathian National University is due to the current problems of national, cultural and state development of Ukraine. In the conditions of the onset of urbanization, standardization of everyday life, leveling of ethnic features of many elements of traditional culture, the most complete study of the latter (both ethnogenesis and ethnic history) is of extremely important importance, since it constitutes one of the foundations of national identity. In this context, the Ukrainian Carpathians are especially interesting for ethnology, since they are distinguished by a high level of preservation of traditional everyday culture with its bright national features. Namely, this region is the ethnographic base of Ukraine, distinguished by its rich ethnographic specificity, Boykos, Lemkos, Hutsuls, Pokutyami, Opilyany, carriers of bright traditional culture and everyday life live here. During the times of the independent Ukrainian state, there was a need for a systematic and in-depth study of the ethnographic regions of Boykivshchyna, Hutsulshchyna, Opillya, Pokuttya. Therefore, such a comprehensive approach actualizes the problem of training specialists in this profile.

Students of the specialty 032 “History and Archaeology”. The educational and professional program “Ethnology” studies a cycle of disciplines of professional and practical training, a cycle of professionally oriented disciplines, as well as a cycle of disciplines of independent choice of higher education institutions. Among them, a significant place is occupied by professionally oriented disciplines of free choice of students. Based on their own field ethnographic research and historiographic base, master’s students of the specialty 032 “History and archeology. Ethnology” prepared and defended 99 master’s theses for the period from 2013 to 2025.
